We’ve all been through it at least once. You sign up for a new publisher account on a affiliate network and its standard procedure with most of them that you complete a short phone interview. These interviews usually take no more then 5-10 minutes of your time and is generally required for application approval.

But like me, many people find themselves with the issue of being nervous during these small phone interviews. Mainly because their trying to impress the network too much when in reality its all about relaxing yourself and taking it slow.

Many of these networks will ask simple questions such as your strategy to marketing? In simple form, how will you be marketing their affiliate programs? They’ll also introduce you as either your affiliate manager or let you know who your affiliate manager is and how to get in contact with them should you need to. There will be a few other questions.

But the primary concern is to relax yourself. Don’t try to make yourself seem too “corporate” or too “professional.” These people are humans just like you and have hobbies, coincidentally enough, just like you. So be yourself but don’t take to too over the top.

For instance, one of my affiliate managers from a network was actually from around the same area I am so we talked about some of the surrounding areas on the initial call. Another affiliate manager was into football and we talked for a few minutes about who we think will make it to the playoffs this season. Its all about finding common ground and reacting to it to say the least.

So when your applying for a new network that requires phone interview for approval of your application, relax yourself. The main thing you want to do is eliminate the sound of being nervous because then many affiliate networks will grow nervous with you. You don’t want that, you want to build a relationship where they’re actually going to enjoy working with you and the other way around, you working with them.
